Penland School of Crafts January Residencies in Printmaking and Letterpress for Artists & Writers

October 2, 2009

Penland School of Crafts has upcoming residency opportunities in print and letterpress. These residencies are designed for eight artists or writers in each studio who would like to work with a lead printmaker or letterpress printer for two weeks in January, 2010. The first session is January 2—15; second session is January 17-30. This residency will provide artists and writers with little or no printing experience a chance to work in Penland’s new facilities with master printers, to create editions of broadsides, prints, or small publications. Penland will reserve at least one space in each studio for a writer.

Penland will provide housing expenses. Artists/writers will pay $400 per two weeks for tuition, will supply their own materials, food, and cover their travel expenses. Food is not available on campus since the dining hall will be closed for the season, but housing with a kitchen is available.

Part of the selection process will be matching printer expertise with the needs shown in artists’ proposals. An application can be downloaded from our website: www.penland.org. Applications must be received by September 15. Selected artists will be notified by October 15.
